I, too, am enjoying your UV illuminated shots, thanks for posting them.

Thx Colin, I try my very best... :)

Wow, that is my favorite one yet.

Yes, well one needs to be aware that many torches that are sold as having Nichia LED's are not what they say they are. I have several brands of torches I purchased that claimed to have Nichia LED's but do not.

So your torch may have Nichia LED's, but I am referring to the photos of the torch in the Amazon listing, those don't look like the same 375nm LED's that Nichia shows in their info.

There are many items being sold that are not what they are advertised as being, and it is common for torches to make false claims to have Nichia LED's in them.

.......those don't really look like Nichia 375nm LED's to me.

They look like possibly the NSPU510CS, 3rd from the bottom on page 132 of your linked pdf.

Yes, you are right John, those could be the ones!

All I can tell you is, that this 375nm torch creates the most beautiful violet color i have ever seen in my UV pics.

I like this one very much as an abstraction. It is intriguing and also pretty.

Aha, now the results are getting highly exciting ... The mixture of light sources gives a special atmosphere to the picture.

Am I correct in assuming this image has been subjected to comprehensive post processing? It has a different appearance than your other night shots.

Hi Bjørn,

yes you are right, comprehensive post processing is necessary to get a result like this one above.

That last shot looks great, what have you done to get it looking that way? It looks like it has been posterised? The colours are great but the textures are really flat - which adds to the image

Wolfgang, I like your "Shinjuku at night...." photo the most,

however I can't really say much about it without seeing the original UV photo, and I assume that shot is not illuminated by your LED lights, but only by the nights present in the street scene.

Steve, I hope you know that Magicians never reveal their tricks. B)

But you are lucky... I am not a Magician.

The original unmanipulated JPEG, I just made it smaller.

The NEF converted with Capture NX-D:

Same NEF File, but converted with Ninja 1.3.3c:

For the final result I used both layers and added some filters in CS6, but I said that already...

The post-processing from this file was much easier then the last picture I had shown last night.

Wolfgang, Oh thank you! It is very nice to see the progression of that, because the Topaz really takes it far from understanding for me. I like to understand things, and these really help me a lot!

So the original shot looks like it has a lot of 'sky light', is this a night shot or a day shot?

Thanks again for all these pics showing the progression!

I made this picture at 6:41pm on the 2nd july. Sunset in Tokyo was on that day at 7:01pm, so it was around 20min before sunset. I would say we had mixed lighting conditions.
