Please contribute to this list of books about IR & UV photography

Recommended Posts

Andrea B.

Edit:  I added UV to the request. There are so very few UV Photography books, so we might as well gather them at the same time. Any language is OK.

Let's gather a list of books about IR & UV photography. Recent, not-so-recent or old (no longer published) books are all OK. I will work on organizing the list as we go along. Any language is welcome.

I have omitted self-published books and Kindle-only books.

I am attempting to separate art photography books from instructional or technical books.

Format:  Title. Author. Publishing or other info.

I used "." as a separator in case anyone wants to copy this into a spreadsheet.

Links to books, especially old books, are not stable. So please use a search engine if you are interested in one of these books.

This was an English language search. We can add others.

Thanks Adrian. I wasn't sure how many editions of the Eastman Kodak publications were published.

I'm not taking papers just now. Only books.

Thanks, Dave.

Adding UV books is OK, too.

There are so few, we might as well add them to the list.

I'll add that to the title.

Noted in passing ...... there are a LOT of really bad IR photos in some of these books. 😄

YMMV, of course. 😀

Would cataloguing the books in chronological order be useful for finding the latest from historical ?

Thank you for this list, Stephan.

Stephan, can you indicate which books are instructional and which are art photography?

I would like to separate the instructional books from the art photography books.

******

Col, I am indeed arranging the list in reverse chronological order.

*******

I didn't think to grab the ISBN when I looked for IR books on Amazon. I'll correct that this evening.

I marked the books with photos only, all the others have theory, graphs, editing tips, etc. The first book, "The Unseen", clearly intends to be art, the other two are documentary.

Oh, I see that you've already classified the books correctly 😀

What The Bees See, Craig P. Burrows, Chronicle Books, USA, ISBN-13 978-1797230184 (Hardback), 2024.

Publication due March or April 2024

"Published as The Seduction of the Honeybee in Germany, Australia and New Zealand". Or maybe will be published?

source: https://cpburrows.com/whatthebeessee/ and Amazon.

This is a book of UVIVF images, so given that the title has some artistic license it is probably not instructional.

*******

Andrea:

The entry for Enrico's book (first post) is out of format.

Do you also want books with substantial sections / chapters on IR / UV?

I'm thinking of specialist volumes such as Michael Peres (editor) "Natural Science Imaging and Photography (Applications in Scientific Photography)" which has a significant section on UV by Adrian, and older books on forensic photography etc etc? Or maybe the list would spiral out of control 😁

I'm not at all sure what UVIVF has to do with bee vision?? The photographs do look very beautiful however.

I don't really know what is "out there" with respect to books on IR or UV photography. So any book that a member thinks looks interesting can go onto the list.

I think that the book you mentioned would be a good one to add.

All the basic information in these books is presented free, here on UVP.

Just sayin'.

Stephan, I think that our list should be mostly about the general practice and typical techniques of Infrared Photography. A lot of the Forgotten Books are rather quite specific or narrow. So I will simply put the Forgotten Books links themselves into the list, possibly in a separate section.

These kind of lists are never quite precisely defined, are they? 😀
