Anyone who is interested in SWIR might take a look at eBay right now... I see a bunch of InGaAs devices. Just search "SWIR camera." Notably these in the $4000-6000US range:

There are also many line scan cameras for under $2000, although getting a line scan up and running is probably a lot of work (we do have one member who succeeded though). SWIR prices are definitely starting to come down now as the 1st generation digital cameras start to be replaced by later generations.

Yes, the price is noticeably getting lower. I think I would prefer a germanium sensor with sensitivity from UV to SWIR, it would be more useful for multispectral imaging.

These looks like a good deals, but if it's about 5000$ maybe it would be more economical to borrow it,  it depends on how much one uses it ofcourse.  A very quick google search showed that SWIR rentals are not easy to find, wonder what are the rental prices?

Definitely but I only know about the Triwave and that israeli company that were doing germanium and scoring either is wildly unlikely. Still, I did find my triwave so never say never! Save your spare change…
