Hello, my name is Fedia, I'm 31 and I spend lot of time creating images through digital photography.

 

I'm stoked to be able to join this forum since it has been an incredible ressource without which I couldn't have developed the techniques I use today. I have talked to some of the people of this forum on other platforms, used their advice and want to thank them also.

 

I've been doing photography since 2014 when I entered film school. I got my first full spectrum camera in the fall of 2020. Even before I got into full spectrum photography, the main thread I explored was color, that I achieved through filters or extreme white balance settings on regular cameras.

 

Even today with full spcetrum photography I don't really use softwares. I try to do everything in camera. Therefore I exclusively shoot jpegs and only work contrast in Lightroom. I never opened Photoshop.

 

I am a big technical nerd I guess you could say, but the truth is my relation to technicity has a lot to do with my artistic sensitivity, both are entangled.

 

I have a lot of ideas of subjects to discuss on this forum so I will post about them in the near-future. But for now I figured I will post some of my photos to introduce myself.

Every one of the following photos are the result of a different filter combination with no color processing outside of the body of the camera. I will precise the camera and the filters each time.

Your approach is exactly mine too.
Both Sigma Foveon & Bayer CFA cameras converted to Full Spectrum.
It is wonderful to see your works & I hope you continue.

Hello Fedia. Welcome to the forum. Love your artistic style. Working on images in camera is an interesting way to proceed. I've seen videos of Japanese photographers working this way. Find it quite interesting. Looking forward to more posts.

Interesting results, even though you might find using jpgs only a drawback not a benefit in the future. Until then, continue exploring the endless opportunities we have at our disposal.

 

From my professional stand point, I liked the brook with the submerged Butomus.

Not likely.
All MidOpt filters I have seen are dichroic while filter glass from Schott and Hoya are not dichroic but Ionic.

 

Some types of dichroic filters use Ionic filter materials as the base substrate to build the dichroic filter structure on.

The Baader U is an example of that.

Raw versus Jpeg has always been a big interrogation for me. I find raw files to be difficult to use. I see people having to bounce beetween softwares just to make a simple white balance... This would go against the idea of making everything in camera. So I admit my choice to use jpegs only has a performative dimension.

Thanks ! I already had made the link beetween your instagram account and your profile on UVP. I've been a reader here for a long time ! And yes worldwide UV/IR community is surpisingly small. Like a tiny village.

With jpgs, you are limited to whatever solution the engineers of that camera decide is best for you. Using jpg is no guarantee for a  useable white balance, and getting a better w/b can be a lost case. Trust me. For normal visible-light work, jpgs usually work well enough.

 

However, the idea of getting most -- if not necessarily all - done in camera appeals to me as I'm basically a little lazy so that is a philosophy I have followed for decades.
