Castellani, A. (2023) Dolichandra unguis-cati (L.) Miers 1863 (Bigoniaceae) Cat's Claw Vine. Flowers photographed in ultraviolet and visible light. LINK

Location: Italy

This is a plant I saw along the road in Liguria.

Other Common Names:

  • Cat's Claw Creeper
  • Cat's Claw Trumpet
  • Funnel Creeper

Dolichandra unguis-cati is a rapidly growing climbing vine belonging to the family Bignoniaceae. The plant, considered invasive, spreads both horizontally and by climbing trees. Two opposite leaves and a claw with three hooks emerge from the stem.

Gear: For the photos I used a Sony A7 with a Meritar 50mm lens.

Filters:
For the visible photos I used a QB39 (1.6 mm thick).
For the collodion emulation photos I used the QB39+QB29 (similar to BG39+BG25).
For the UV photos I used a TSN575+ZWB2 stack.

The aluminum background adds drama to the images. I like these a lot. Well done.
