Peterborough UK River Nene Embankment 'Willow Tree' IR images taken on a frosty / sunny day, 17 January 2023 with a 'full spectrum converted' Leica T (Type 701) / Leica TL 11-23mm / URTH 720nm IR filter .  Full spectrum conversion by  Alan Burch, "Infra Red and Full Spectrum Camera Conversions"  IOW UK.

The Leica T is a 'great unloved' Leica APS-C ICL camera partly because its AF can be too slow – but in manual focus mode, with magnified 'live view' it's fine. The T does not have an integral live view EVF; it relies on a hot-shoe fitting accessory EVF – made by Epson but 'badge engineered' Leica'. The long discontinued 16.2MP Leica T (only available s/h) is the cheapest  ICL Leica APS-C camera.

I really like these IR conversions.

And it's nice to see this use of a Leica T.

Your compositions are quite nice. And the way the dark tree trunks are behind the willow wands is so dramatic.

Given the fixed wide-angle lens on the T, do you find you can get close enough to a subject, if desired? I once used the Nikon Coolpix A, a small fixed wide-angle lens, advanced point-n-shoot for botanical field shots. It had a close-up mode built in. Worked well. But some of my other wide-angle lenses not so good for closer work. I'm not at all familiar with Leica lenses. Only have a 50 Summicron.

Thank you for the +ve comments.

Andrea, from memory I used the 23mm end of the zoom which is the FF equivalent of 35mm - thus not too wide. I have not tried the lens on e.g. small flora /fauna; I have close-focus and macro lenses for close-ups. The 50mm Summicron is an excellent lens and there is a Mk II close-focus version with 'goggles' manufactured from 1956 - 1968 which is in demand. My Leica TL 11-23mm zoom lens was made in Japan but to a Leica Wetzlar design. I plan to use the Leica T for UV photography later in the year; meantime using for IR and in addition to the the 720nm, have an URTH 850nm filter to experiment with. Ref the 'willow wands' - camera was shooting almost directly into the sunlight – semi-contre jour.

Andrea B.

Love the compositional lines of this one. And the swan is such a cool part of the photo.
