weird microsoft stuff in error log

I put 23.101.53.80 into WHOIS and got Microsoft. Why would they be looking for files which we do not have?

Something must be telling it to look for these files.

If not needed, than just create a whole buch of Notepad files and  rename them to .php

That might work or break something else.

Dave, that is not the Microsoft operating system. It is a person, somebody at Microsoft, the Corporation, who is querying our system about files we do not now nor never did have. Way weird.

Somebody is trying to "piggy-back" nefarious activities on an unsuspecting web site.  Such things happen all the time. Block the IP and the problem is resolved -- until next time.

 

Our sister site, nikongear.net, is bombarded daily with attempts to break in using WordPress entries, etc. Just ignore the riff-raff but keep an eye on the system logs.

I just thought it very odd coming from Microsoft Corp. Could be a spoof I suppose.
