UVP Outage

Recommended Posts

I do not know why UVP went down in the early morning hours of 17 November. The Site5 administrator pointed out a "scripting error" in our error log (thrown by one of our software files) as the cause of the failure. Site5 then said that only a restoration from a backup would bring the website back up because that would replace the faulty file.

None of our forum software files have been altered since the last upgrade, so that did not make much sense to me.

But --- the only thing to do was to proceed with a restoration from the most recent daily backup. And soon UVP was back up and running.

Funny thing, however, was that the most recent daily backup used for the restoration was made AFTER the website went down. Thus the so-called "faulty file" was replaced with its identical copy.

Some mysteries are never solved. 🤪😄

From your puzzled friend, Andrea B. 🐝

P.S.  If you were logged on to UVP during the 5-minute database restoration, it is possible you might have lost a post or a comment. If so, please try again now that the platform is stable.

We do not have any outages logged except for 17 November 2022.

For a 500 error you should first clear all cookies from your browser.

As an example in Safari, click

Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All > Remove Now > Done.

I think it is a good idea to remove both cookies and stale pages from your browser.

(I do this daily. YMMV, of course.)

As an example in Safari, click

History > Clear History > All history > Clear History.

to remove both stored urls and associated cookies.

After cleaning up your browser, then try again to access UVP.

Website outages can be verified by using any website status checker.

As an example, chosen randomly from a list, go to https://www.isitdownrightnow.com,

enter ultravioletphotography.com in the box, and then click CHECK.

I haven't used Safari 🤢 for years.

i prefer to keep firefox and chrome open...and photoshop together.
my old macbook pro retina 2012 with os 10.12.6 works fine (not the recent zany os)
If I use Safari everything slows down, even with the new macbook with 32 Gb of memory

I do not currently have Chrome. (Too much Google tracking, but that's a story for another time.)

So I had to look up these instructions. Please let me know of any errors.

Chrome

Click the vertical dots (upper right corner).

Click Settings.

Scroll down and click Advanced.

Under Privacy and Security, click Clear Browsing Data.

On the popup, select All Time from the time range menu.

Click Clear Data button.
