I went out today to find my real time shadow with my thermal. Best I could find was grass, took about 10 seconds for it to cool down to see the shadow. I tried the sunflower leaves, but those were just showing the heated up leaf. Gravel was the same but that took longer to show a shadow. Also tried a few different buildings, like in the video, but nope they were just showing surface temp. 

 

I must be thinking about this wrong or my thermal just shows too far IR for this to work?

I will have a try myself soon. It may be a little while, I am very busy with work now.

MWIR looks like the sweet spot between reflected and emitted light. LWIR may be too much on the "thermal" side.

I honestly still think it’s just a question of getting the emissivity in the sweet spot between too reflective like foil and too absorptive like most materials. But I am very much lacking the time to work on this, which is frustrating. This is exam time for the college kids on semester systems. I’m a popular tutor.

Plus, don't worry about testing this, those students are way more important.
