Děčín castle in UV (and IR)

This castle is a dominant of my town, it has unfortunately been largely destroyed during the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia when troops were stationed there and they acted really recklessly about the building itself and the historical artifacts and interior elements within. It has since been largely reconstructed, many old artifacts were brought in from other places and it sees many cultural events, such as concerts and open air cinema. There are also many tours that you can get of the castle itself.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures in the visible but you can find many on google. The UV images are recent, only two weeks or so old. They show that the castle is apparently being repainted or was partially repainted at some point at least, which makes sense.

There seems to be some red color cast on the left side of the image, it only manifests in UV and I have no idea why that is. Didn't happen with my old full spectrum Canon EOS 1100D.

The dynamic range of my Sony a6000 is amazing, and it allowed me to lift the shadows quite nicely, resulting in a lot less of a muddy image. I could have never done this with the 1100D, not without a lot of noise.

IR pictures from the beginning of 2021:

I also have some IR pictures from inside the castle. There's a place called "The Rose Garden" where I took those. It was winter and during reconstruction though, so there was not much to see. I believe they were shot with a Rowi GO-2 orange filter.

Fantastically beautiful.
The first two UV images show the different pigments in old & new white paint.
The older probably has Lead White as the pigment, which reflects UV, while the newer white is probably Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide, that absorb UV.

Thanks!

I think the purple paint might be older though. If you look at the second image, you can see blemishes on areas that are painted with it. I sure hope they're not repainting the castle with lead white 😂

Great target! Shows the differences in paint quite well

For sure. I didn't know it would turn out this interesting.

Fabulous images. You are really putting the Sony to good use. Love the architectural shots.
