Very nice results! I've tried so many lenses that don't provide that kind of clarity in IR thanks to haze and flare.

Beautiful shots.  Reminds me of the Canon 10-18mm, which is also very bright and sharp in IR.

Can you clarify which lens this is - the first line says 8mm fisheye.

my mistake... turns out i had trouble creating clear text with this editor when I cut/pasted a link involving a lens.. needless to say i wasn't paying attention when I finally fixed it..

should be AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED

The Ai Fisheye-Nikkor 8mm f/2.8 is an excellent performer in the IR but obviously not the lens used here... Sorry!

my best performing lenses in the IR are:

Ai Fisheye-Nikkor 8mm f/2.8 or Ai-S version

AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED
AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED
AF-S NIKKOR 17-35mm f/2.8 ED

I was also considering AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR one of the better lenses but did have a small bit of trouble once.

There are more of course..  For example, some below, but not all that sharp.

Ai Nikkor-QD.C 15mm f/5.6

Ai Nikkor-UD 20mm f/3.5

Ai Nikkor 28mm f/3.5

Any of these lenses will flare under the right circumstances (which is true in general).

A great landscape - extremely interpreted by IR.
For my taste, however, the micro-contrast is used too strongly (I think, on the contrary, a slight glow would also be suitable here).
But it would be boring if everyone did the same thing ;)
Either way, very impressive pictures!
Thank you for sharing, Bob.

other questions Bob

what soft did you use (looks like a filter - Nik Silver Efex)

even if the files are very small it seems to me that there is a low micro contrast mask and a higher macro contrast.

My favorite is the first

the third I find that the grass in the foreground is a bit too gray, I would have masked the sky and contrasted the image as if there were snow

Thanks for sharing

P.S. it would have been nice to see a comparison between an 830 - 720 - 580 nm
I miss the first one, the white of your pines fascinates me.
With my Hoya R72 the pines become very dark, not like light birches.

Hi Bob,

What do you use to mount filters to this lens?

The 14-24/2.8G Nikon does not accept filters due to a bulbous front element (of course there are expensive ways to do it).

My D800E has an internal RG830 by Maxmax.

I don't use Nk Silver Efex... I use Photoshop and DXO Photolab routinely.

Why is that?... I have plenty of comparisons on my web site that nobody seems to care about.

For these two locations, turns out that I didn't have the time and didn't bring my internal RG720 with me this time.  I literally took a few snaps.

Yes, I saw the expensive options.  This is really too bad, as there are not many full frame wide options with this level of IR performance.  I would be adapting the lens, so the field narrows further.

internal filters are fine... I own a UV-VIS-IR, RG830 and RG720 D800...  so depends on what I am shooting and with what lens.

I would be adapting the Nikon to an L mount camera, so I don’t believe any internal options are available.

You seem to be correct. I just saw that Kolari only offers R-mount,  Z-mount,  E-mount and coming soon to X-mount. But no L-mount. The STC clip ins are in m43rds, F-mount and EF-mount,  so it looks like L-mount is still left out.

Maybe message Kolari and see if its possible.

my internal filters are not clip-in.. they are sensor package modifications that remove the UV-IR cut filter and replace with IR filter.
