StephanN
Rothenburg o.d.T. is a city in Germany, in Bavaria, to be precise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rothenburg_ob_der_Tauber). I've been there three times so far, and it's truly overwhelming. It's only one of a handful of German towns with intact medieval city walls. Photos were taken with the usual equipment: 6Ds, one modified for 700nm, and one for b/w UV, with the oldest photos (the ones with 670nm) taken with a full-spectrum 6D. I hope I'm not messing up the descriptions, there are an awful lot of towers there Enjoy. #1 (700nm) and #2 (UV), city walls with four towers, from Rödertor (leftmost), to Galgentor (rightmost). Taken from about the same spot, but not at the same time. #3 (670nm) and #4 (UV). Galgentor: #5 (670nm) and #6 (UV), Burgtor: #7 (670nm) and #8 (700nm), Rödertor: #9 and #10 (both UV), Rödertor: #11 (670nm), #12 (UV), #13 (UV), Klingenturm: #14 (700nm), #15 (700nm), #16 (UV), Weißer Turm: #17 and #18 (both 700nm), St.Jakob: #19 (700nm), townhall: #20 (UV), cafe einzigartig and other old houses: #21 (UV), cafe Louvre: #22 (700nm), Landsknechtstübchen #23 (UV), garden of the (former) Dominican monastery, now town museum: #24 (670nm), city impression with storch: #25 (700nm), city impression with bench: #26 (700nm), city impression with street lamp: #27 (700nm), city impression with plants: #28 and #29 (both 670nm), Burggarten: #30 (670nm), unknown tower: #31 (700nm), moat outside of Rödertor: #32 (670nm), walk around the city walls: #33 (UV), Plönlein. If you've ever only seen one photo from Rothenburg, chances are that that this was the one, in VIS, of course #34 (UV), this building is of more recent fame, and not because it's so old and flashy, but because it was the lodging of Pope Franziskus, for some three months in 1986, while his studies of the German language: Link to comment

Andy Perrin
I really love these. What an amazing location! I have a Victorian Christmas card that looks like it might be of one of those towers? Link to comment
dabateman
Thank you for these images and an interesting history lesson. Its good that they surrendered during WW2, to avoid further destruction of the buildings and wall. Did you catch any section of the wall in UV that was rebuild? Link to comment
Kai
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is definitely a great location with countless motifs. You staged this wonderfully. I especially like the UV shots because they emphasize the old, historical character (in my opinion). Especially when there are no parked cars in sight ;) Thank you for showing! Link to comment

Thanks everyone, and yes, Kai, I would have loved to see an "autofreien Tag" in the old part of Rothenburg. At some places it simply wasn't possible to avoid the cars Link to comment

Perhaps a different medival town, I presume that towers erected at the same time would look similar across Germany or central Europe. Link to comment
Andrea B.
A very enjoyable travel series. I like the variations on false colour. The ivy in #22 and #27 are so nicely brought out by the false colour. The glowing backlit tree in #32 is lovely. Link to comment

Will be going back there in autumn for a couple of days, and trying to decide whether I ought to take some 550nm and/or 950/850nm-shots, as from 630 to 720 the photos look quite similar (of course, also some UV-photos). StephanN
So, been back again, this time for some fun with tilt-shift, long-time-exposure and, of course, fish-eye Same equipment as before (camera-wise), lenses: Canon 11-24mm, T/S 24mm, 135mm, 8-15mm, and some 35mm lens for UV #1: Burggarten, the dreamy way #2, city wall #3, #4, long-time exposure of some towers #5, long-time exposure of the Plönlein (see #33 from initial post) #6-#8, skyline of the city, the last with the famous stone-bridge (you can spot the buildings of the first photo in the rightmost part of the second one) Now, for the fishy ones #9, #10, same building in the Burggarten, but slightly different view-points, yielding very different photos #11, #12, looking into the pathway, and looking back out of it #13, #14, looking up #15, looking through (similar viewas in #9 from initial post) #16-#19, inside of St.Jacobs, simply love the candle reflections. And is it just me, or do the last two appear to have a face Link to comment
colinbm
Great IR & you have framed the circular fish eye photos beautifully. Link to comment

StephanN
Well, half a year later, I've returned one more time to this magical city, this time for some more UV-shots, and more importantly, for some shots with my 550nm-filter. Using some presets, and playing around with hue & co, one can find some interesting colour-combinations. So, if you ever find the time to go there, do so. I probably won't return there any time soon, but will instead search for other picturesque places. #1-3: Castle garden #4: wall close to the city museum: #5: anther one of those towers #6: fountain, adorned with eggs, for Easter: #7-#9: view over the valley #10-13, Wildbad (former bath, now conference-centre) #14: inside the city #15: Kobenzeller gate: #16: view towards Burggarten (castle garden) #17-18: some more towers, the first one overlooking the outdoor venue for the city's theatre company Link to comment
StephanN
In this thread, the topic of AI-created infrared photos was discussed (https://www.ultravioletphotography.com/content/index.php?/topic/5883-near-infrared-by-dall-e-2/) and I've taken a few of my photos from here, and ran it through Corel Painter, emulating different artistic styles, which I believe is a legitimite way of using AI. After all, the initial photo, composition and everything, was my creation, and I did choose the artistic style (sometimes using more than one). Some of them are not too bad, I think Link to comment
