Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg o.d.T. is a city in Germany, in Bavaria, to be precise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rothenburg_ob_der_Tauber). I've been there three times so far, and it's truly overwhelming. It's only one of a handful of German towns with intact medieval city walls.

Photos were taken with the usual equipment: 6Ds, one modified for 700nm, and one for b/w UV, with the oldest photos (the ones with 670nm) taken with a full-spectrum 6D. I hope I'm not messing up the descriptions, there are an awful lot of towers there 😉

Enjoy.

#1 (700nm) and #2 (UV), city walls with four towers, from Rödertor (leftmost), to Galgentor (rightmost). Taken from about the same spot, but not at the same time.

I really love these. What an amazing location!

I have a Victorian Christmas card that looks like it might be of one of those towers?54D901DF-D88F-4407-9B6D-40DCCD688AF1.jpeg.d37530c2e1b401a81264105c57a634c3.jpeg

Thank you for these images and an interesting history lesson.  Its good that they surrendered during WW2, to avoid further destruction of the buildings and wall.

Did you catch any section of the wall in UV that was rebuild?

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is definitely a great location with countless motifs. You staged this wonderfully.
I especially like the UV shots because they emphasize the old, historical character (in my opinion). Especially when there are no parked cars in sight ;)
Thank you for showing!

Thanks everyone, and yes, Kai, I would have loved to see an "autofreien Tag" in the old part of Rothenburg. At some places it simply wasn't possible to avoid the cars 😒

It does very much look like those towers, but none of them matches completely. Perhaps a different medival town, I presume that towers erected at the same time would look similar across Germany or central Europe.

A very enjoyable travel series. I like the variations on false colour. The ivy in #22 and #27 are so nicely brought out by the false colour. The glowing backlit tree in #32 is lovely.

Thanks. Will be going back there in autumn for a couple of days, and trying to decide whether I ought to take some 550nm and/or 950/850nm-shots, as from 630 to 720 the photos look quite similar (of course, also some UV-photos).

So, been back again, this time for some fun with tilt-shift, long-time-exposure and, of course, fish-eye 😀

Same equipment as before (camera-wise), lenses: Canon 11-24mm, T/S 24mm, 135mm, 8-15mm, and some 35mm lens for UV

Well, half a year later, I've returned one more time to this magical city, this time for some more UV-shots, and more importantly, for some shots with my 550nm-filter. Using some presets, and playing around with hue & co, one can find some interesting colour-combinations.

So, if you ever find the time to go there, do so. I probably won't return there any time soon, but will instead search for other picturesque places.

#1-3: Castle garden

In this thread, the topic of AI-created infrared photos was discussed (https://www.ultravioletphotography.com/content/index.php?/topic/5883-near-infrared-by-dall-e-2/) and I've taken a few of my photos from here, and ran it through Corel Painter, emulating different artistic styles, which I believe is a legitimite way of using AI. After all, the initial photo, composition and everything, was my creation, and I did choose the artistic style (sometimes using more than one). Some of them are not too bad, I think
