dancingcat
Frary, S.C. (2022) Lantana camara L. (Verbenaceae) Common Lantana. Photographed in ultraviolet and visible light. Garden Ornamental: Waxahachie Texas USA. Other Common Names: Red Sage, Yellow Sage, Sanguinaria Synonyms: Camara vulgaris Benth. Comment: Native to Mexico and southern tropics. Common garden ornamental; can get out of control rather readily. Toxic to livestock and rabbits. Considered invasive in pastures and croplands because it will spread quickly and out-compete native plants. I really shouldn’t have it in my garden, but it’s really pretty and can handle our local very high summer temperatures. Making a stack for the UV image introduced a lot of noise and halo artifacts (I think from heating up the sensor during long exposures), so this image is solo. The petal edges and corolla centers are nicely UV bright.
