Nate
Got a chance to get out again, been raining and blowing seems like for weeks now. Just brought my Canon Rebel(T7) as it's the easiest to use. Only brought the EL Nikkor 80mm metal version lens. Filters: Baader U/UVR Optics NIR block stack for UV Cheap 850nm(spectrum tested and is good) Kolari hot mirror V1 for visual Couldn't find darktable's no color profile, so used L, A and B profile. Seemed the closest to photo ninja as I only have the demo for it. I first pulled up and noticed these, no clue who or what, but they were very interesting. Kolari v1 blocker UV, quite interesting. 1 sec, iso 400 f8 IR, 850nm. 1/160 iso 400 f11 Saw another interesting wild growth, taken with my phone UV version. 1/8th iso 400 f8 Right next to it was this, another unknown to me. This little guy on my camera bag, had to crop, didn't think they would let me get close. Seems to enjoy UV a lot. 1/2 sec iso 400 f8 a couple more wild life, too far out, had to crop and lose quality Some ducks, really hard to shoot in UV, as they're moving. They made a really loud clicking sound, that is new to me. Personal transportation. (white) 1/2 sec iso 400 f8. Taking this shot, has brought to my attention, someone has hit my door with theirs. colinbm
Nice walk in the park. The UV sure changes things. Link to comment
Nate
For sure Colin, nice to get out and some shots. Link to comment
cazza132
Nice shots Nate. You did well to freeze the action on the animals! Interesting that those white flowers come up so dark in UV. Link to comment
Nate
Thanks @cazza132I took around 20 pics of the ducks, and luckily one of them finally stopped to wait for the other. Yeah those flowers were a bit of a surprise, I might go back and get some closer pics. Link to comment
Andrea B.
The first plant is some species of Sorbus, but I don't know which kinds grow where you live. Sorbus can be a tree (rowan, mountain ash) or a shrub. The rodent fellow looks like a Marmot? Or could be some kind of ground squirrel? Very cute sitting up like that surveying its little kingdom. Nice catch in UV!!! And I really like the duck photo with the reflections. It's cool that the duck on the right is a swirl of motion! Added a minute later: Forgot to say that the 2nd flower is a Mertensia, Mountain Bluebell. Again I don't know which one specifically. Link to comment
Nate
Thanks for the info Andrea, it was a large spread out tree, another phone pic. It is right in the center by the rock. The wild life was very active, funny it was National nature photography day too. Link to comment
nfoto
The third flower, rendered yellow in UV, is a Geum (Rosaceae). Like Andrea, I cannot pin the identification to a species levels from the images alone. Link to comment

otoien
Must be the first ground squirrel I have seen in UV, but hard to take the species with a UV rendition only. Link to comment

I waited to get some shots of them coming out but they didn't. Other squirrels I've taken in UV, have dark fur on their heads, kinda got to get the right exposure and sun reflection to see it. Wayne Harridge
An interesting series. I notice the car has different colors/tones, looks like the metal parts are different to the plastic parts. Do they look visibly identical? If so, I wouldn't think UV would penetrate enough for the underlying material to make a difference so I presume the manufacturers use different paints for different parts. Link to comment

They are the same exact color. I wonder if they would look the same in NIR. Link to comment

Yes, there are lots of ground squirrel species, hard to identify by appearance and many of them make chirping sound and they all live in their burrows. The location would narrow it down though, but there are quite a few species listed in the Idaho region. Link to comment
Nate
@otoienI tried to narrow it down to a species, but since I didn't get a visual shot of them, it makes it even more difficult. The location was Spring Valley Reservoir near Troy Idaho. Link to comment
