StephanN
I've been to Würzburg before, but that was before my discovery of IR- and UV-photography, so when I had to chance to go there again, last year in summer and this year just a couple of weeks ago, I was eager to take some nice photos there. Looking at them, you might think that apart from the Residenz, the cathedral and Marienberg there's not much to see there, but I didn't have a lot of time, so had to stick to the main sights. I'd love to go back and see the rest. The first set of IR-photos (in 2021) was taken with the EOS 6D, converted to 700 nm, and Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8. I know this lens shows an unmistakably hot-spot, but when travelling one needs to compromise on gear. The second set of IR-photos (in 2022) was taken with the same camera, and the Canon EF 50mm lens, which does not show a hot-sport, fortunately. All UV-photos were taken with the EOS 6D, converted to b/w UV, using the Soligor 21mm. Residenz (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Würzburg_Residence): Cathedral (interior done as HDR from 3 frames, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Würzburg_Cathedral ): Marienberg ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marienberg_Fortress ): Neumünster (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neumünster,_Würzburg ) Neubaukirche (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neubaukirche): Marienkapelle ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marienkapelle,_Würzburg ), quite big for a chapel, I'd say, dwarfing the maypole: I like this shot, because of the contrast with the newer buildings, and, of course, the usual group of tourists. In VIS, it would be more flashy, due to all the colours. Market hall at Unterer Markt: Link to comment
colinbm
Wow, what can I say, these are terrific, especially in mono, either UV or IR. Link to comment

Doug A
Impressive images. The 2nd, with yellow flowers and the B&W cone shaped trees are my favorites. Hope you get to go back soon. Thanks for sharing, Doug A Link to comment
Andy Perrin
This is all great. My favorite is the first image -- it just has a nice composition with the statue in the foreground. But the cathedral pics were also A+. Link to comment
Nate
Excellent pics! The mono UV mood is great. Also loving the IR, I too have the Canon EF 50mm, it's my go to lens for IR. Link to comment
StephanN
Thanks everyone Currently I'm more in the mood for moderate colouring, also in IR (well, apart from the green-pink one, but I developed it like this last year and didn't feel like changing it). Perhaps I ought to whip out the 850nm-filter for whiter whites Link to comment
Cadmium
StephenN, Yes! Really great photos! Link to comment
Andrea B.
So interesting to see other places. Thank you for this lovely series. I have begun to think that all travel photos should be in some version of IR or UV. The alternate light makes us see things anew or differently. Those topiary trees were just made for IR photography. Love that one. (9th photo down if I counted correctly. ) I like the UV rendered in black & white. UV is so good for details and particularly for building details. I also like the ghost people on the stairs (10th photo). It looks as though some statues have decided to leave their perch on the railing and make an escape. Now here is something funny. When I look at the trees in the 3rd UV photo, I see them as that dark false color green which sometimes appears in UV landscapes. I know there is not a single speck of dark green in that photo. But every time I look, I am convinced I see dark green. There is a photography writer online - The Online Photographer - who once wrote about seeing red apples on green grass in a black & white photo he had made of red apples on green grass. This is the first time I've ever had false color appear where there is none. This is both funny and cool. I'll look again tomorrow to see if I'm still seeing dark green. Maybe my eyes -- and brain -- are tired from writing and editing all afternoon. Link to comment
StephanN
Thanks. As a matter of fact, I've made only a handful of VIS-photos on that trip, mostly of family I find them increasingly uninteresting - not the family, of course That's interesting. I'm not seeing the green, but perhaps it's a similar effect as with that striped dress a couple of years ago, which was seen in completely different colours by different people (Next time I'll label the photos properly , in order to make them easier to refer to, yes you did count correctly ) Link to comment
Andrea B.
It probably has something to do with what the brain is expecting to see over-riding what I am actually seeing. Much like we see some things as white even if the light is not purely white because the brain knows to compensate for the light color. Link to comment
Kai
Thanks for showing, Stephan :) The pictures are in your usual high quality - technically and artistically. Personally, the UV-B+W images really appeal to me. They are not as beautiful or lovely as the NIR images. But somehow always a bit mysterious... Link to comment

I'm now trying to not only do the usual comparison shots in IR and UV, but also go for more artistic shots, like the one of the statue of Europe and Zeus (photo #6). I do wonder, how many people would actually recognize this as not being a "usual" photo. With the IR-shots the leaves are a dead giveaway, but some UV ones might not be so easy to spot. Yes, my pictures of Burg Castle are such comparison photos. Every now and then I find that revealing, but actually I prefer pictures taken from a creative point of view. There could be more to show here ;) P.S.: The Würzburg Residence as a building is very impressive inside and out. Many years ago I was allowed to take part in a wine tasting in the wine cellars there. That was also very impressive... :) Link to comment
StephanN
Nothing against those shots, still do them frequently (truth be told, I'm getting lazy and don't always want to carry two or more cameras, that's why I've started pretending to do artistic photos ) Link to comment
