Other Common Names:  False Dandelion, Texas Dandelion

 

Synonyms: Pyrrhopappus geiseri, P. multicaulis, P. multicaulis var. geiseri, P. rothrockii, Sitilias multicaulis

 

Comment:
Profuse in lawns and along roadsides.  Larger than common dandelion.  Characteristic dark anther filaments.

A different color than the chicory that infests pavement margins in the Midwest (that one may be introduced.) I tried to put some in a vase of water once---and the water washed the color right out of the petals (you could see the fluid front propagating outwards.) Never had a flower do that to me before or since.
