About Topic Links: go to beginning or go to last comment?

Go to the dropdown menu under your name in the upper right-hand corner of the main page.

Select Account Settings > Content View Behavior.

There are 3 choices there for Content View Behavior, i.e. Page behavior, when you click on a Topic Link.

  • Take me to comments I haven't read.
  • Take me to the beginning.
  • Take me to the lastest comment.

Your choice here affects how Topic links appear when copied/pasted as well as affecting the behavior of the software when either you or someone else clicks on a Topic Link.

Here is an example of a copied/pasted Topic link under the first choice of "Take me to comments I haven't read".

See the #comment-43814 at the end of the link? Someone clicking on this link will not arrive at the beginning of a Topic Page. They will arrive at Post #43814, i.e. Comment #43814, within the Topic.

If you want to direct a clicker to the beginning of a Topic Page, then you must edit the copied link to remove that comment number. Unfortunately the only way to edit a copied link to remove the comment number is to click the Source button on the edit menu. The Source button brings up the formatted version of what you are writing in the Editor.

Here is what the preceding copied Topic link looks like in Source.

There are two places where #comment-43814 occurs. You must delete both occurrences.

Un-click the Source button in the Edit Menu before saving your edits via the Edit Topic button under the Editor.

That is a lot of work and I am NOT recommending that you edit your pasted Topic links to direct people to the beginning of the Topic. I am just explaining how it works in case you might want to edit your pasted Topic link.
