Comment:

These Woollywhite flower heads are discoid and have no rays. The scales attached to the seeds are membranous, giving the flower its Greek genus name.

The rayless, pale yellow to whitish discoid flowers spread out at the end of a tall, sturdy, central stem.

The filiform leaves form a basal rosette around the central stem.

The tangle of white hairs on the stem and involucre give the plant its common name of Woollywhite.

The interiorsof the UV-dark disk florets show a bit of false blue. The lines of pollen are bright on the fused stamens.
