UVF Sloes used for Sloe Gin

Recommended Posts

I just finished decanting my Sloe Gin into  bottles, and thought I would see what the gin soaked sloes (fruit of  Blackthorn: Prunus spinosa) would look like in UVF. Some very interesting patterns, though not sure what they mean (if anything!) Maybe sugars from the process, or mould?

Technical details:

UVF: Nikon D850 with 105mm micro Nikkor and 1.4X tele converter. NEMO torch, light painted, 10 seconds at f/16.

This does not look like any mould growth pattern, so perhaps alternate explanation should be sought? More importantly, how did the home-brew  taste? Sloe is very tart.

Thanks to everyone for your comments! Colinbm asked about the gin itself, so I shot one this morning. Great blue colour! Not sure what is fluorescing - the gin or the sloes??

Birna - This year's batch is rather sweet - they do vary year by year, so may need to be drunk with tonic!

I always had wondered what were "Sloes".

Sloe Gin Fizzes were quite popular in the early college days.

Not that I ever drank one........😇
