Snowy UV

Recommended Posts

Snow finally stopped for a day, but it is still 1f/-17c here with some wind chill. I've been really wanting to snap some shots, so stayed in my car and used window mount.

Not very exciting snaps, but thought I'd share the weather I have here in Idaho. My yard has about a foot and half/45.7cm of white goodness. All shots with EL Nikor 80mm

I pretty much had to stay on the road, I only have a car. Still working on processing pics with snow in UV, it reflects so much.

I wonder if the “UV protection” in the Cat is actually a side effect of using plastic windows

Might be Andy, I'm going to check out other tractors and stuff when it warms up a bit

I bet those windows are polycarbonate, though thick acrylic might be an alternate possibility.

Shooting UV in the snow can be fun--it is one of the brightest natural surfaces out there and can make for some impressive contrasts.

Thanks @Doug A the exposure time top to bottom is

1. one sec f11  90% full sun 17 deg from horizon

2. one sec f11      "                   "

3.  .5sec    f11     Full sun       "         "

4. 6sec     f11 This one was super cloudy 8am

@Nate not bad exposure times. Snow sure helps with UV exposure. What ISO did you use? I like how the building shot is B&W except for the purple. Be careful with the cold.

Thanks for sharing,

oops, I always forget something @Doug A

Experimenting with iso200 with these. I wish my camera handled noise better. For astrophotography I use 1600, but I'm also letting more light in at 60 second exposures there. S/N ratio much better.

@Nate wow! ISO 200 is great. The snow really amplified the light. Looks like the snow will last a while. You might have time for one more photos. Good luck.

Thanks,

Doug A
