rfcurry
What information can we derive from color count? I have been taking UV reflectance photos with different UV bandpass filters. Sometimes the difference between the images is remarkable, sometimes it is very subtle, but there is one constant; one of the filters has a color count 10K to 30K greater than the other. So, what, if anything, does the color count mean in practical terms. Thanks in advance. Link to comment
Andy Perrin
By "color count" do you mean "color temperature"? I have not seen this term before. Link to comment
rfcurry
Some of my freeware image processing programs do a count of the unique colors in an image. One considers the count as an image property:************Image propertiesImage name : Gen3-318.jpgFolder : C:\Users\Reed\Google Drive\Filters\SunflowersSize : 4000 x 3000 pixels ==> 22.22 x 16.67 inches (180.00 dpi)Color count : 97832File size : 1.33 MbDate : 12/10/2018 1:21 AM EXIFMake=PanasonicModel=DMC-GF1... etc.******************* Another program has color count as a plugin. It shows the unique colors of the image above as Unique colors: 98806 a difference of 974 colors. I don't know how the color count is typically used. Link to comment
Andy Perrin
I see. So presumably it depends on the bit depth of the image? e.g. an 8 bit image could have no more than 256 unique colors. Link to comment
Cadmium
This looks like one of those guessing games to me. Link to comment
dabateman
Reed,This link is what I found:https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2310967 With the harsh comments of why would you want to do that. And its irrelevant. Link to comment
Alaun
I think, it should have an influence on how much you can compress an image (lossless)? Link to comment
