Flowers photographed in visible and ultraviolet light. http://www.ultraviol...-spring-beauty/ Twin Pines, La Plata County, Colorado, USA28 April 2013Wildflower Synonyms:Lanceleaf Spring BeautyComment:The Colorado variety of C. lanceolata is C. lanceolata var lanceolata(1).Some plants bloom immediately after producing their first two leaves and then die back. Others produce more leaves. There is also some variation in the amount of pink on the petals. At first glance the perianth appears radial, but the UV photos easily reveal its zygomorphic nature. The two lower petals are UV-dark while the upper three petals show some UV-reflective areas. Reference:1. Weber & Wittmann (2012) Claytonia L., page 304. Colorado Flora: Western Slope, 4th Ed.
