bsas
So, before I buy this expensive filter I really need to understand it. If I read it properly, the 2" model has a weird 50.8mm filter thread. So, I guess I need an adapter for that size to standard sizes (like 49mm, 52mm or 58mm) right? Which adapter I should get? Also, the the BaaderU the highest transmission UV filter out there (even compared to stacks)? I really need very high transmission to do videos but whatever I can save I want since I am short on budget after paying for my full-spectrum conversion :( Thanks all, sorry for the dumb question but it is confusing for me :( Link to comment

Herman1705
The filter itself is only 45.5 mm diameter. Link to comment
bsas
Cool, thanks, good to know. But then, why it is called 2"? Is it a marketing lingo? Link to comment
SteveE
It is an astronomy filter. Its intended purpose is to fit into 2 inch telescope eyepieces via the standardized filter thread for 2 inch eyepieces. Link to comment

dabateman
No its Astrophotography or Astronomy lingo. There are 24mm (1 inch), 31.5mm (1.25 inch), and 48mm (2 inch) filters. You can even stumble on a lens with these odd sizes. My Peleng 8mm fisheye has a back 1.25 inch thread. But there is also an inner thread that I adapted to 25mm. To add confusion in Astrophotography the frameless filters have odd sizes like 36mm. The Baader venus filter is first an Astrophotography filter, second an amazing expensive UV photography filter. But you may consider a 330WB80 improved filter. Its cheaper and very good. Message the seller and see if he can still mount it for you. Last I heard he could mount it in a 28mm ring. Link to comment
Andy Perrin
I like the 330WB80 also. Very cheap by comparison, and not all that different in the end results. Link to comment
Cadmium
Well here is how I did it. I removed the Baader U glass from its frame/ring.I got a 52mm to 48mm step down ring, I put a retaining ring in both sides, and sandwiched the Baader U glass in the middle. That solution is for my 52mm threaded lenses. However, turns out my best UV lens has 46mm threads, so I use a 46mm to 52mm step up ring for my Baader U now. Link to comment
ulf
The drawback with Cadmium's solution above is that there is no inner threads at the front.Dichroic filters more often require lens shades mounted in such threads. I stacked step-up and step-down rings, 52mm-48mm + 48-52mm to get the front thread and used one retaining ring instead. The thread in the step-down ring goes all the way from front to back. I think I borrowed the original retaining ring from the Baader filter cell. All stap-rings are hidden under label tape and difficult to show. Link to comment
JMC
I Just mounted mine in a 49mm filter ring. Fairly standard size, easy to get a 52mm to 49mm step down ring if needed, and threaded on the forward side for adding a hood. Link to comment

No, that is an old photo, I have way since then adjusted the two retaining rings to move the Baader U glass further to the read, so it has plenty of front thread to park your hood, filters... enricosavazzi
Yet another way to remount the glass of the Baader U is by using the filter ring of a 52 mm B+W filter, which usually has 52 mm front and rear threads, a broad shoulder, and a smaller female thread and retaining ring accessible from the rear. It usually accepts filter glass from 46 to 49 mm diameter (but I have seen also different B+W Pro filter rings). Link to comment
