It also sees use as an ornamental plant. Its external appearance is akin to the more common P. caeruleum, from which P. acutiflorum differs by having darker coloured flowers with more pointed petals which are hairy along the edges, and pinnate leaves with fewer leaflet pairs (typically 6 against 8-12 for P. caeruleum).
