Finally!

I don't know how long it will take for us to see an https in our URL, but the SSL Certificate to support this has been ordered and paid for through our server company Site5.

It is not yet installed.

I thought Site5 was supposed to do it.

Just curious to know what benefit an https:// URI would bring to the site. Since nothing is bought/sold here, what needs to be encrypted?

Some browsers have kittens if your site does not have this nowadays. Just an annoyance, but best to get with the program...

@Andy Broomé: https will protect transmitted information when a site user enters her/his username and password. I for one greatly appreciate such provisions.

Thanks, Mark, for the answer. :D

Given the level of hacking these days, I think it is important to try to prevent any snooping even on such a quick transaction as a website login. I've been notified at least 3 times in the last 3 years that my personal data has been stolen or hacked or whatever. Constant monitoring of online financial accounts or other accounts is necessary.

Remember to change your passwords -- at least once a year. I have been using a password vault to store mine. We have so many these days that it became impossible to remember them all.

Now I need to go check in with Site5 and find out what the delay is in installing this certificate. I thought it would be done by now.

The SSL Certificate is in place. Your browsers should stop giving you the insecure message now. B)

I will now setting a REDIRECT: All traffic to the HTTP version of UVP will be redirected to the HTTPS version of UVP.

That way you do not need to change any of your bookmarks. But it might be a good idea to do that anyway?

The Redirect is now in place.

Next I must try to determine how to serve up UVP content (images in particular) via https rather than http. You might still see a notification from Firefox that UVP content is considered insecure.

Your LOGIN is SECURE.

But I haven't yet found out why a page with an image is still considered insecure. I will continue to look for the reason. I'm not worried about this at this point because only a member can upload an image.

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

Chrome complains that this site is still insecure, even though the emojis appear to have https:// refs when I inspect the elements:

It is only the images.

Anything you type - such as your login info - is secure.

Currently, I have to use the certificate offered and installed by the server company. UVP is on a shared server.
