Wildflower

Synonyms:

  • Minature Woollystar

Comment: The shorter stamens differentiate E. diffusum from E. eremicum which also grows in Arizona. This specimen was found growing in a gravelly wash. The stem of this plant is normally a reddish-brown and the linear leaves green. But in this specimen the leaves appeared to have dried out and browned. The calyx is very wooly. This is more obvious in the UV photograph because the hairs are UV-bright. The yellow and whitish throat of the corolla becomes dark in the UV.
