In the garden

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just received a nice camera set from USA, including a Meyer Görlitz Primotar 135mm f3.5 and a E. Ludwig Meritar 50mm f2.9. Luckily the sun was out so I could try them on my nex6.

Both lenses seems to be good for UV, the primotar being a little soft wide open but has a very strong characteristics, which I like. I also noticed that the ring holding the front element was not tight, so that could also affect the photos. The Meritar is an absolute joy to use. I have a m42 version, but that's a terrible construction and handling is a pain.the exakta version? Solid, built like a tank, but lightweight.

The two close ups and my portrait are made with the Meritar and the other two with the Primotar

That is a terrific UV portrait of you looking fierce!

Interesting that the Meritar 50/2.9 is sturdier in Exakta mount over the M42 mount. Or perhaps it could just be due to the age and wear on the M42 version?

Yeah, I know, you just didn't have to try so hard to smile

Andrea it's a totally different construction. It might be a different mechanical design from different times. One significant change is the position of the aperture ring (front on the silver one and back on the zebra) and the silver one feels much much better construction. UV capabilities seem to be very similar.

The zebra one is the one I have in M42, and so far on eBay I mostly saw this version in M42 and very rarely in exa mount. The other one is the Exa mount which I haven't seen in M42 yet (that does not means it does not exist). There is a third version which was the earliest I think, that one is not preset.
