It is widely cultivated and will grow in most soils.Udovic & Spencer (2012) noted “Australian herbaria are divided in their recognition of Callistemon, with state herbaria in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia following the Australian Plant Census (APC 2011) in recognising Callistemon whist the other state herbaria in Queensland, Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania, treat the relevant taxa in Melaleuca”.
