Hot iron with BOS

Another Background-oriented Schlieren photo (using the usual random dot-background consisting of four A4 sheets taped to a foamboard). I will probably add a few more images later as I process them. Credit to Bernard for the idea of doing an iron. There was no water in the iron, so it's not steam.

Disappointed you didn't melt your cast iron pan in your melting experiment with tin, for the oven MWIR flower image.

But this will do. Really hot convection currents.

Can you set up a multi frame exposure and have you blow on it from the left?

The heat waves would look very interesting crashing up and back.

My camera can't take photos that quickly. (This is the NEX-7, because the A7S's resolution is only 12Mpix and not suitable for BOS.) For movies, traditional mirror Schlieren is better anyway because there is, of course, no processing time for the photos.

I am waiting for the hot hot summer to see whether you can capture any heat waves rising up off an asphalt street.

Not that I haven't thought about it, but I would need a photo of the background WITHOUT the heat waves to do that, and I'm not sure how I could get one. Even if I took a pic in the early morning and one in the afternoon, the light would change a lot in between.
