Tamron 24-70, B-410

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I recently inserted BDB frame 32.5mm + B-410 31mm in the rear of Tamron 24-70, seems it works. I am not sure about UV footprint, maybe there is a little bit, mostly IR. For artistic purposes this combination works.

Gear: Nikon D600 full spectrum, Tamron 24-70 F/2.8 Di VC USD, B-410 2mm

Thank you Da Bateman. Yeah, Cadmium also recommend to stack with KG3. Hopefully I will order someday. In these photos I just manipulated with saturation.

Lest anyone forget, it was Colin (colinbm, above) who first discovered the B-410, who first had it, and first use it. Credit where credit is due.

But, David, no, I don't really care for B-410 too much myself, it is too orange for my taste, at least the best I have been able to make it work for me.

However, Ural, your photos are good examples, and I do like them. I do especially like second photo above.

Thank you for your kind comments and thank you Colin for the great discovery! Reading the forum, I came to conclusion that the following filters are best suited for artistic purposes: UG1 (U330), BG3 and B-410. Could you please share your opinion which filters (stack of filters) do you like to use? Also has anyone tried UHC, CLS and Moon filters, maybe they are also ok?

Everything is OK if it gives you what you are after....

Moon filters vary depending on the brand. My SvBony ones are almost perfect minus mercury. As in all the dipps are at the points of the mercury lines. So it actually works as an excellent "normal" filter with a hot mercury light source. I will use it for that with that to get the visible image some times.

Any filter can be artistic, even the brown from ПС11+СЗС23. Ins13, pulled off to look amazing. She even captured the image in my mind.

Ural, you said "UG1 (U330)", those are not the same, if that was what you were implying by the parentheses. UG1 = U-360 (but I think U-360 is preferred), and U-330 = UG5, but UG5 is much more expensive than U-330 and they work the same.

UG1/U-360 can be used alone for dual band IR, or stacked with S8612 for UV only (UV pass, some like to call it).

U-340 also works that way, but cuts lower in the 390nm's.

I personally don't much like BG3 or B-410 for dual band, but stacked with S8612 the BG3 can be used for UV+Blue+Green, not as nice as U-330 + S8612, my favorite (sometimes called bee vision).

Thanks to Cadmium for the comment, I thought UG1 and U330 are the same, bee vision, interesting. Perhaps this filter will help me understand why wasps are so fond of our attic :-)
