New fun UV dream camera, if I could spend $15000 on a camera only

The new QHY4040 with the BSI GSENSE sensor is expected to be out later this year.

Since the current front side illuminated version is available at $13400, I would expect this also around just under $15000.

But it looks great for UV. Available only monochromatic but in versions with or without microlenses. The CMN is microlens free for x-ray detection. The CMT has microlenses for regular imaging.

What is interesting is the fiber connections for video 4k at 24fps and 16bit. Usb out is only 8bit 20fps 4k.

Just rereading what I wrote above.

I have nothing to do with either QHY or Gpixel.

I just get way too excited when I see a fabulous UV sensor. 36mm square, 16Mpixels (my current favorite) and sensitive to UVC.

I think Jonathan should add this camera to his UV microscope built to take some cool UV movies.

The cut off on the CMT at 350nm is due to the sealed coverglass on the mount of the camera being double AR coated. This can be removed and replaced with fused silica. Some glass is needed there to seal the chamber during cooling of the sensor. Otherwise the sensor would be dripping with humidity.

Protecting against salivating UV aficionados??

Yes most likely. I have been known to drool.

But also when you run cooling hard, the cold sensor will condense water on the surface, if no glass is present. Which obviously would not be good for the electronics.

Now with COVID we don't need to drive anywhere right. So we don't need cars, really. So getting rid of a car that costs insurance and maintenance for a more practical camera makes sense right?

I think that might be tough sell to my family though.
