nfoto
Rørslett, B. 2014. Rubus odoratus L. (Rosaceae). Flowering Raspberry. Flowers photographed in visible and ultraviolet light. http://www.ultraviol...ring-raspberry/ This member of the large genus Rubus is for once an easily identifiable species, native to eastern North America and widely cultivated for its decorative large flowers elsewhere. It is a small perennial bush and flowers in early summer with showy purplish flowers. Material photographed in Sørum outside Oslo, Norway 14 July 2014. Image reference: RUBU_ODO_B1407144872_VIS.jpgVisible light: Nikon Df, Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 125 mm f/2.5 lens, daylight. Image reference: RUBU_ODO_I1407142017_UV.jpgUltraviolet light: Nikon D3200 (modified), UV-Nikkor 105 mm f/4.5 lens, internal Baader 2" (Venus) filter, SB-140 flash. The petals are quite UV reflective hence appear bright, while the central disc with anthers and stigmas is dark. According to the UV records I acquired, the petals appear to have a lack of conical cells, or at least these are poorly developed unlike what we observe for e.g. Rosa flowers. msubees
Amazing textures under UV but lacking under visible light. does this species produce edible berries? Link to comment
nfoto
In my country the fruits never ripen. But they are said to be pretty dry and lacking in taste. UV is the great discloser of surface detail. Link to comment
