Southwest Harbor, Maine, USA13 July 2007Wildflower Comment:St. John's Wort is quite common on Mount Desert Island in fields, vacant lots and along the roadside. This particular specimen was found on a gravelly, weedy slope between the parking lot of the Southwest Food Mart and State Route 102. This Hypericum is an introduction to the US which has become widespread. It has been known as a medicinal herb since antiquity and is still used in herbal preparations today. Reference:1.
