Andrea B.
Blum, A.G. (2014) Potentilla simplex Michaux (Rosaceae) Common Cinquefoil. Flowers photographed in ultraviolet and visible light. http://www.ultraviol...mon-cinquefoil/ Southwest Harbor, Maine, USA16 July 2009Wildflower Synonyms:Oldfield CinquefoilSpreading CinquefoilPotentilla simplex var. argyrismaPotentilla simplex var. calvescensPotentilla simplex var. typicaComment:The sprawling P. simplex has 5 leaflets in its palmate leaf, so lives up to the Cinquefoil name. P. simplex grows only a little taller than the similar Dwarf Cinquefoil, but it is distinguished from P. canadensis by having slightly longer leaves which are toothed along two-thirds of their edge as opposed to only one-half of the P. canadensis leaf length. The UV photos in this entry are not of the highest quality. However they will serve until later replacement to illustrate the UV-dark petals with brighter edges that are characteristic of this flower's UV signature. Reference:1.
