Eremophila macdonnellii is named after Sir Richard G. Macdonnell, 19th century Governor of South Australia. It is widespread throughout the central Australian areas of South Australia, the Northern Territory and southwest Queensland. According to Chinnock “Although there are a number of well-defined forms found in cultivation, when one examines the whole range of variation these distinctions are not maintained and as a consequence no subspecific taxa are recognised”.

Close examination of the visible and UV files revealed an unidentified beetle inside the corolla.
