Calystegia soldanella (L.)R.Br. ex Roem. & Sch.

EN: Sea Bindweed; Seashore False Bindweed; Beach Morning Glory; Sand Flower

NL: Zeewinde

DE: Strandwinde

This is a small creeping perennial vine of sandy seashores and similar coastal habitats and having a wide distribution along coastlines in North and South temperate zones. It does not reach the Nordic countries, though.

Flowers are large, trumpet-shaped and the corolla usually more or less pale pink, sometimes with pink stripes. These flowers are visited by a wide range of pollinators.

Sample specimen photographed at Les Sables d'Olonne, France, 2 Jun 2011.
