Nico
Chalwatzis, N. 2013. Dianthus carthusianorum L. (Caryophyllaceae). Carthusian Pink. Flowers photographed in visible and ultraviolet light.http://www.ultraviol...arthusian-pink/ Dianthus carthusianorum L.DE: Kartäusernelke, SteinnelkeEN: Carthusian Pink D. carthusianorum is a species native to Europe that is found on dry and warm places. It was also commonly found in monastery gardens because it contains saponins and was used for the treatment of rheumatism. This is a very UV-dark flower. The petals are darker than the background. Interestingly, the outside of the petals does reflect more UV which gets visible in the bud and at the edges of the petals. Also, the pollen is pretty UV reflective which makes the pollen grains that have been spread on the petals stand out. Flowers were photographed near Bensheim, Germany 24 August 2013. All images were taken with a broadband-modified Panasonic Lumix G1 and the EL-Nikkor 80mm/f5.6 at f8.
