Wildflower in botanical garden

Synonyms:

  • Crested Iris
  • Neubeckia cristata (Solander ex Aiton) Alefeld

Comment:

The yellow and white ridges on the white area of the sepals (falls) give this spring woodland flower its name. The stigma and anthers are hidden under the style arm which covers the proximal portion of the sepal.

The sepals and petals are moderately UV-absorbing with areas of iridescence. The style arm exhibits a UV-dark ridge and slightly lighter tonality in UV. The crest and white area are UV-black.
