Syn. Allium schoenoprasum L. var. sibericum (L.)Hartm.

EN: Siberian Onion; Wild Chives

 

A perennial bulbous species found in Northern Europe, Siberia and northern America. It is closely related to the cultivated A. schoenoprasum and often treated as a variety or subspecies of this species. However, A. sibiricum differs in ecological preferences and grows on damp meadows often by the sea.

It tastes a little differently, though. And its ecological preferences are for damper or alpine biotopes. The geographical distribution in the Nordic countries is disjunct as the plant only occurs in the high north.
