Membership by Appointment Only

The Administrators of the UltravioletPhotography.com (UVP) website wish this site to be a valuable resource for anyone interested in the various aspects of UV photography. Any field of UV photography is welcomed, but there is no need to be a veteran UV photographer as such in order to participate. Anyone can apply for membership as long as they have an insight in photography, a keen interest for all things UV (or IR), and an intention of participating actively on the site. We do sift through the application and not every one is granted, so make sure you put some work into the application before sending it !! Skeleton applications will be rejected without further discussion.

Membership is only required if you wish to make posts or to comment on existing posts. If you are a newbie to all areas of photography, UVP is not the right place to start your journey into photography.

We also welcome photographers interested in Infrared photography, UV-induced Fluorescence Photography and other types of multispectral photography. Basically, we intend to support and showcase all except "traditional" photography in the visible spectrum. We have added relevant sections for these associated genres.

About Membership on UltravioletPhotography.com

  • Approved membership is currently free of charge.
  • There is no time limit to the duration of an approved membership.
  • With an approved membership you can start posts, reply to posts, upload images and use the private messaging system.

Membership Application

Please send your membership application request to the following email address (extract the actual address using simple logic that should pose no problem for a human):

<registration> at >domain name for this site>

Your membership application should include the following 5 things:

  • Your name.
  • Your valid, primary email address.
  • A description of your interest in UV(/IR) photography and your relevant fields of expertise.
  • The screen name you wish to use on the forum. This can be your actual name if you like.
  • A declaration that you have read and agreed to the Forum Rules posted in this section: Membership and Forum Rules.
  • If you are a vendor of any kind of photographic equipment, we need to know about it. Vendor-members are permitted subject to the following rules: Vendor Policy.

Membership Account

Upon receipt and approval of your application we will set up an account for you on UVP. While we like to accomplish this within 24-48 hours of receipt of your application, this is not always possible if we are on a shoot or otherwise occupied. Be patient, we'll get there. However, do note that applying for membership in it self is no guarantee you can become a member.

  • You will receive an email with your temporary password which typically is a duplicate of your suggested screen name.
  • PLEASE ensure that our email to you does not get blocked as spam.
  • If you do not receive our email within 24-48 hours, you might want to go ahead anyway and try logging in with these credentials.
  • How to Activate Your Account: On your first login, go to Your Profile under your Screen Name in the upper right corner and change your password. You can alter your Screen Name at any time as well.
  • If your account has not been activated by logging in and changing the temporary password during the first three (3) months after your membership was approved, the membership may be deleted.
  • Members can remain anonymous by using only their screen name if they so prefer, but we do not encourage anonymity. To interact with the UVP community at large, you will do yourself a favour present and future if your post signature includes your real name (at least your first name) and if you post a brief introduction in Introduce Yourself.
  • Finally, do not apply unless your intention is to participate actively on the forum. We don't need sleeping members.

Update:

Recently, we have been encountering a number of people who apply, are given membership, but never log into their account. That will NOT do.

Please note that UVP wants active members who participate and contribute questions, answers, images, and insights for the benefit of the site and the audience at large.

Thank you.

Further update for applicants:

Do ensure your e-mail address is valid and will accept incoming mail. Please, if possible, provide an alternate address to be used if the first one bounces, which happens far too often.

Without a secondary e-mail, we have no way to complete the Membership Application process. We do try to send another reminder from a gmail account, but this requires additional manual steps and our time could be spent in a better way.

Also, look in your Spam folder if you don't hear from us. It is surprising how much email gets mis-directed. Email is certainly not 100% reliable.

From time to time, we receive applications for UVP membership that have to be declined. If you do feel this decision is unjustified, you can try again (preferably, not more than once!!). However, consider your original application carefully first because we do have our reasons for turning down an applicant.

First of all, do note that all applications are handled manually and depending on project commitments, travels, etc., there can on occasion be up to a week's delay in processing your application. Sometimes, even longer delays are unavoidable due to external chores for the Admins.

All new members are listed under the UVP member overview ('New Content' > 'Members') , thus if your name is found there yet you have not received your acceptance e-mail, try contact us through an alternate e-mail address. If your don't find your name listed. then your application has been declined - or, did not reach us in the first place.

In the recent months we have received a surprising number of applications for membership and sadly most have to be declined.

Basically, the reasons for rejections are as follows,

  • applicants haven't read anything of the requirements we have outlined for an application, thus providing nothing more than their name and e-mail address,
  • applicants have just purchased a "full-spectrum modified" camera and wonder how to use the camera, thus want to be a member of UVP to get basic photographic  advice,
  • applicants abuse us of not having a membership registration page they can click on -- why must they be sending an application at all?
  • if they receive a rejection letter, they just resend the skeleton application

or any combinations of the above.

Do NOT fall into any of these traps if you really desire to be a member of the UVP community.

Apparently, most applicants still avoid reading the guide lines set forth above, and send us skeleton applications. Such will be ignored and no rejection letter will be sent. .

Frankly, how difficult is this? Put efforts into your application, please.
