I thought this was a Ranunculus. But now I'm not so sure. It gets like that sometimes when one's head is awhirl with hundreds of different flowers and patterns.

Family is correct.... Could be a Caltha if not a Ranunculus. There are a number of smaller genera split off from Ranunculus so check your local flora.

Any UV signature available for it?

So it could be a Caltha? I will have to look that one up.

The petals seemed far too spread out for a Ranunculus.

And the flower was larger than most I see.

It has a classic bullseye.

Seeing the foliage I wonder whether this is a slender form of Ranunculus ficaria? The UV signature matches pretty well. It is not a Caltha.

I have some R. ficaria about 1/4 mile from the area where I found this one. Somehow this one looked so different. The plant was much more shaded which could affect things. But I think it must be an R. ficaria.

Helps to know it is not any kind of Caltha.

Thanks.
