Five Different Yellow Filters Stacked With A DB850 Filter.

Recommended Posts

Five Different Yellow Filters Stacked With A DB850 Filter, on a full spectrum Sigma fp camera.

I had the Canon 40mm pancake lens on the camera. Did I say they go together like a hand in a glove.

I also measured the transmittance of the five yellow long pass filters, & I have posted the photos in order of shortest to longest cut on, which was between 475nm to 570nm.

The DB850 remained on the lens & each yellow filter was CWB on the camera with a grey card, before each photo was taken as a DNG Raw file.

Each DNG raw file was opened in IrfanView which automatically converted the photo to a .jpg file.

The photo was only channel swapped from an RGB to GBR. No further processing was done except to reduce the file size to 1000pixels wide.

Here are the five examples, in the order of the yellow filters cut-on wave length at 1/2 width.

PS, I have ordered a Tiffen #12 filter.

1/ Generic yellow @ 475nm, with a DB850 filters.

Colin, do you have a Green X1? I always wondered how the DB850 behaves (in contrast to KG3) in combination with X1 and X1 plus Yellow stack...

Ha! Look at that: some blue trees with blue sky - that's your first image - channel mixing and a little slider work... sooo...the perfect initial image (for blue trees), if you go the standard channel mixing route, would be deep red trees and orangeish sky...

Yes I do have a Green X1 to try-out with.

Ha ha blue trees, maybe I should post the before swap photos too ?

If you could try out Db850 + X1 ....and Db850 + X1 + K2 --- that would be awesome! Beautiful Place btw!

I'll try for tomorrow Christoph

This is the end of my street, we live 1.5m above sea level & it hasn't risen 1cm in 50 years.

I chose this shot as it has the most variety of vegetation.

Awesome - looks really tropical. Never been to the Land of Oz, but definitely will go one day!

No worries with the test - only if you have time etc...

BTW: Just took a closer look at your profile image--- is that a Bigfoot?

This is the bluest before the swap, it is the forth photo.

This is the park across the road from this house.

x1 is spectacularly unspectacular! Thanks for testing! It‘s so close to just the DB850 - meaning it acts like a DB850, hence the good „Aerochrome properties“....

No worries, all fun to do & learn

Very nice series, Col.

I really like these palm trees in alternate lights. They make for very cool photos.

And I also am happy to see filter tests like this. It is very informative for everyone.

I'm now wondering if I could get anything interesting like this using my local cholla cactus as a subject?

Hmmmm......it might be time to gear up and get outside again.

I found two more yellow filters, a Shott OG515 that cuts-on at 500nm & a Chinese CB535 that cuts-on at 525nm.

The original five has now stretched out to twelve yellow filters passing from 470nm to 570nm all with the DB850 & channel swapped to GBR.

Here is the latest addition of a Tiffen #12 filter, which passes from 510nm again with the DB850 & CWB in camera & channel swapped to GBR.
