Andrea B.
This was in a bouquet of flowers a friend gave me from her garden.I haven't the slightest idea what it is! UPDATE 25 Feb 2021: Digitalis x 'Honey Trumpet' Link to comment
Andy Perrin
Almost looks like some kinda foxglove? Link to comment
nfoto
Something in "old" Scrophulariaceae, Antirrhinum perhaps? Link to comment
rfcurry
Brugmansia, perhaps. The blooms look like they would be pendant. Don't eat them, Andrea. :) Link to comment
nfoto
Doesn't look as it belongs to Solanaceae. My guess is some kind of snapdragon. Link to comment
Andrea B.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm still searching. Link to comment
bvf
I threw your picture at PlantNet and it came up with these foxgloves, which I have to say look very like your flower: Digitalis obscura L. PlantaginaceaeWillow-leaf foxglove Digitalis grandiflora Mill. PlantaginaceaeLarge yellow foxglove Digitalis lutea L. PlantaginaceaeStraw foxglove Link to comment
Andy Perrin
Bernard, that's what I thought, I mean it looks like a foxglove to me, but Birna says not. Link to comment
nfoto
Dificult to pin down the genus given only a picture of the (lovely) flowers -- my nod goes to something in the "old" Scrophulariaceae. That would include Digitalis, but also a number of related genera. Link to comment
Cadmium
Looks like this:https://garden.org/p...hins/a5765d.jpg https://garden.org/plants/view/663801/Foxglove-Digitalis-Honey-Trumpet/ Link to comment
bvf
The Honey trumpet is another type of foxglove - but as it's a hybrid I'm sure that Andrea wouldn't have stooped to photographing it ... Link to comment
Cadmium
I think that is what it is, like Birna said "digitalis". Plants→Foxgloves→Foxglove (Digitalis 'Honey Trumpet')Careful though: "flowers and leaves are highly toxic, and this plant should not be grown in areas frequented by children." Link to comment
Andrea B.
Oh Bernard ! {me laughing}......I photograph EVERYTHING !!! Cadmium, I think you have found the ID. It does indeed seem to be a yellow foxglove. I am not at all familiar with yellow for foxgloves. It's true I mostly know the wildflowers, and wild foxgloves are mostly pinkish spotted flowers. I will pursue this Honey Trumpet flower for my ID. Thank you to everyone for their input. Notes Antirrhinum: The open "butterfly" snapdragon flowers are erect, and the open end doesn't look like this. Brugmansia: Couldn't find any which looked like this at all. Digitalis obscura: Seems to be the wrong colour (reddish-orange more on the red side) and have the wrong inside patterning (dark red streak). Digitalis grandiflora: Does have the internal veining, but again the colour is too pale. Digitalis lutea: Seems to be too pale of a yellow and have too large a lower lip. Xera Nursery originated the Digitalis x 'Honey Trumpet' plant. Rather, their bees did.https://xeraplants.com/plants/digitalis-x-honey-trumpet/ Link to comment
