Also used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. The entire plant is fragrant and tends to be sticky. Plants photographed at Yuma, Arizona USA 9 Mar 2012. In UV, the corolla of A. villosa exhibits large patches of conical cells and signs of iridescence. There is a UV-dark centre of the flower by and large corresponding to the visible bright area.
