Hello all

my name is Wolfgang I am hobby photographer for a long time, I live on the Swiss /German border near Bale on the German side.

I startet photography with an Agfa camera from my father made in the late 50tys had later Minolta´s and came from there to Sony…now I am also in the late 50tys :)

In the moment I do mainly landscape and close up, one of my cameras (Sony A7 II) I converted to full spectrum and do a lot of IR shots over the passt month.

As I have a full spectrum camera I would like to try UV to discover the invisible in the close up World

I have little knowlage about UV but I read a lot in the moment ….

I still need UV Filter and may be lenses, but I have quite some lengthy lenses that may work.

I would be glad to get an advice on a UV filter.

I use to moderate many years in the german Makro-Forum.de so I am be to advice on close up Photography if needed.

I am non Facebook, Watsapp, Twitter......

best regards

Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang, welcome to the forum.

There are a lot of UV filters, there's the well-known Baader-U, the StraightEdgeU for the upper 375-400 nm range, and you can use ionic glass stacks, using S8612, U-360/UG1, U-340/UG11, or the equivalents ZWB2 and ZWB1. BG39 also works but transmits UV less. Each filter type (dichroic and ionic) has its advantages, I prefer ionic stacks but that's just my taste.

Old, uncoated lenses may transmit UV well, at least it is more likely. You may search your lenses in the UV capable lenses sticky, there is the possibility someone already tested them.

Best first up UV filter is the Baader-U, Gives you perfect UV with one filter.

You can experiment with others filters later.

The best UV light is the so called, 15watt 365nm torch, it is filtered to block visible light, has a big battery. Most of us have a least two of them.
