Honeybees collect a substance called propolis - a kind of resinous glue - from trees. This substance has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that seem to help bees keep the inside of their nests sterile.

Bees also use propolis to seal up the entrances to their nests.

I was wondering if anyone here had taken UV photos of the exterior of a bee hive to show what a bees would see as they approach their home.

UV photos of the inside of bee hives would also be very interesting for beekeepers to study.

For example this information might influence how beekeepers paint and clean their hives.
