Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore)

Recommended Posts

Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore in Italian) is a pre-alpine lake in northern Italy. Although it translates into "Major Lake", it isn't the biggest lake in Italy, but the second behind Lake Garda.

Yesterday I took some visible light photos (with my phone) and some IR ones with my modified camera. I didn't have the UV-pass filter with me, since I had to assemble it with tape and cardboard.

Cameras:

Visible: Samsung Galaxy A40's rear camera

Infrared: Full-spectrum Panasonic DMC-F3, Hoya R72

Visible. F-stop: f/1.7, ISO 40, 1/2899 s exposure.

Infrared. F-stop: f/7.1, ISO 400, 1/800 s exposure.

I love how infrared makes everything look very different than normal. Almost no haze, everything is clean, sharp and contrasted. All images are "as they came", or "SOOC", as someone would say. No post-processing. The infrared shots have been white-balanced in-camera with a white paper tissue.

Nice work Stefano.

Surprised the vegetation is so dark, especially in the first IR.

Nice to see some Optimist class sailing dinghies in the background.

I am wondering if the appearance of vegetation on those hills may be deceptive. It could be more barren and we are seeing the ground mainly, with a bit of scrub? Or perhaps it’s just the low angle the light is hitting at?

Stefano, Very nice. I especially like the last couple of IR shots.

I tried to Google/street view it, but could not get the exact location. I kept looking for the fountain.

Cannero Riviera, across the lake there I think.

Such a beautiful area, towns, and buildings!

I think there is mostly vegetation, though not fully "leavy" as we are in Autumn, so it can be that you see the bark too. Trees have most of the leaves still on.

That's roughly the location of the third couple: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nMhHhbCL42FirXak9

Cannero Riviera is across the lake, as you said.
