Black Box for Mineral Photography

Recommended Posts

Hi gang,

Just ordered a bottle of Stuart Semple Black 3.0

Going to buy a small wooden box to coat with Black 3.0 for photographing UV minerals.

Saw his video on YouTube on how to prepare wood for his black stuff.

Thinned PVA glue (25% PVA - 75% water) to seal the wood. I might be using 2 layers. Let it dry between coats over night.

After that I apply 2 thin layers of Black 3.0 drying over night between layers.

I have a small macro studio in the basement of our geological club. When I turn of the light, it's pitch black!

Hope to get this working. And if it does, Ill share some images with you.

Going out in the field tomorrow to search for some minerals with my S2

Stay Strong - Stay Safe

All the best from Norway

Harald

I've used Black 2.0 and 3.0 on wood, and to be honest I've never prepared the surface. I just used multiple coats of the Black paint (3 or 4) and allowed about 4 hours drying time between each one. Good luck with it, I've found it to be really good stuff.
