Cemetary in UV, IR

Yesterday I visited a local cemetary and took some photos in UV and IR (700nm). The UV-photos were taken with the EL-Nikkor 80 (no hotspot to be found here), and the IR ones with the 24 mm T/S-lens. Again chancing it without tripod I found that the focus shift of my Nikkor is quite noticeable, so I used LiveView with magnification to focus for the long-distance shots and then used my forehead in the traditional fashion to stabilize the camera for the photo, after turning off LiveView for composing.

I didn't make a point of creating twins in terms of composition, so most of the subjects are not photographed from the same angle, etc. It's just too boring, and I think the differences show up all the same.

The cube on the mound is a memorial to those who died in the last Great War, the obelisk is from the burial place of Sowjet soldiers, the archway is called "Heaven's Gate", and the others are just impressions. As a matter of fact, this time round I prefer the UV-shots, possibly because of the sombre mood, and the way the memorial and the gate stand out with their light colour.

The last one with the cherub is my favorite.

I like it as well. Unfortunately (from a phtographer's point of view) large columns and sizeable angels (like the ones from Dr. Who, Don't Blink) are not customary around here, but there are quite a few small ones.

Nice collection Stephan

The pointed stone, obelisk shape, is that a water stain running down the centre, it seems to have the same contrast in UV & IR ?

Thanks. Hm, I think it is a water stain, possibly a bit of moss growing there as well. Not having taken a VIS photo, I can't be sure.

In #4, did you tilt the lens to throw the sides out of focus?

Yes, I did. My intention was to have the inscription in focus, but after getting home I noticed that I did miss it just slightly. Oh well, next time.

StephanN, I like these. Mostly the black and white ones.

Thanks. I used to process my IR-photos for very intense colours, but recently I've been choosing less saturated versions more often than not.

Went back there today, and it's definitely weather damage.

Also, apart from checking the obelisk, I took some more photos, this time I took my tripod along, so I was able to keep the ISO to 100. Again El-Nikkor 80mm, all of them at f/5.6. The comparison photos are 700 nm, as usual.

I like the twisted column.

Does it commemorate anything specific?

Nope, it's a single grave, but caught my eye, because it's not one of the usual crosses or tombstones.

I've always found it strange but interesting that cemeteries provide so much worthy UV/IR subject matter. Good series!

Thanks

Went back this week for some more UV-photos, this time with my lens-baby. I kinda like that cheapo tilt-lens, but the effect is usually so overwhelming that each time I use it, I need some months to recover from it, so I get to use it about twice a year
